TheVagar’s Mountain Shelters, located at the top of Serra da Esperança at 700 meters altitude, offer a unique experience of immersion in nature.
This private, adults-only retreat was designed for those seeking tranquility, seclusion, and a genuine connection with the natural environment.
Set in a privileged location within the Serra da Estrela Geopark, the shelters nestle among colossal granite boulders and are surrounded by a stunning, untouched landscape, providing a stay far from distractions and the fast pace of daily life.
Inspired by the traditional “choças” (huts) of local shepherds, the shelters pay tribute to the region’s architecture and culture, using authentic materials that ensure perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape and give the project a true sense of belonging.
Only three shelters are available, carefully spaced apart to ensure complete privacy for guests. Access is exclusively by hiking trails or 4x4 vehicle, reinforcing the feeling of being in an exclusive destination, where luxury lies in simplicity and the peace and quiet that reign here.

TheVagar was born from a love story and a shared vision between Marta Domingos and André Pinto—a couple passionate about hospitality and driven by the dream of creating a unique space to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters.
They met in Guarda while studying Tourism, and years later decided to embark on their first hotel project together, bringing to life the “slow-down hospitality” concept that defines TheVagar. This family project has since become a benchmark in lodging, increasingly recognized and sought after by both national and international travelers.
